 FRÉDÉRIC FRANÇOIS CHOPIN

 (1810-1849)

  Polish composer and pianist of partly French descent.

  Born at Zelazowa Wola, near Warsaw; studied in Warsaw;
  settled in Paris, touring from there (e.g. to England and Scotland).

  Never revisited Poland (under Russian Occupation)
  but he was a keen patriot and a student of Polish literature.

Chopin never married; met 'George Sand' (real name Aurore Dudevant) 1838, and lived
with her till 1847; suffered from consumption, gave his last public concert in 1848, and died in Paris.

Works - nearly all for piano, and equally remarkable for harmonic imagination
and for use of piano technique.
