 FRANÇOIS COUPERIN

 

 (1668-1733)

  Called 'Couperin le Grand' (the great),
  French composer, also harpsichordist and
  organist; pupil of his father Charles Couperin:
  (1638-1679)  French organist (in Paris) and
  composer.

 Held official post under Louis XIV, composed
 over 200 harpsichord pieces, some with picturesque titles;
 chamber music, organ pieces, church and other vocal music. 

  Wrote famous book on harpsichord playing.

  Nephew of Louis Couperin (1626-1661),
  also a French organist (in Paris) and composer.
