CARL PHILLIPE EMMANUEL BACH
(1714-1788)
German composer, fifth child of J.S.
Bach, pupil of
his father.
Domestic musician to Frederick the Great of Prussia,until assuming a church post at Hamburg 1767.
Noted keyboard player, adapting his music
progressively to suit trend from harpsichord to
piano.
Wrote treaties on keyboard-playing. Works, showing departure from J. S.
Bach's style
towards to that of Haydn and Mozart, include keyboard concertos and sonatas,
symphonies, chamber music, also on oratorio and church music.
His work is indexed by WQ numbers.
