  CARL PHILLIPE EMMANUEL BACH

 (1714-1788)

 

  German composer, fifth child of J.S. Bach, pupil of
   his father. 

  Domestic musician to Frederick the Great of   Prussia,until   assuming a church post at Hamburg 1767.

   Noted keyboard player, adapting his music
   progressively to suit trend from harpsichord to
   piano.

Wrote treaties on keyboard-playing.  Works, showing departure from J. S. Bach's style
towards to that of Haydn and Mozart, include keyboard concertos and sonatas,
symphonies, chamber music, also on oratorio and church music.
