JOHN FIELD
(1782-1837)
Irish pianist and composer, pupil of
Clementi in London;
settled in St. Petersburg in 1803, toured Europe from there,
and died in Moscow.
Invented the name and style of the Nocturne, taken over by
Chopin. His work, admired e.g., by Schumann, and Liszt, includes 20
Nocturnes for piano,
7 piano concertos and chamber music.
