  CHARLES WESLEY
  (1757-1834)

English organist, harpsichordist, and composer (concerto, anthems etc.)
A youthful prodigy who did not fulfil his early promise.
Pupil of Boyce.  Nephew of John Wesley, the founder of Methodism
and brother of Samuel Wesley.

  SAMUEL WESLEY
  (1766-1837)

English organist and composer, despite his family background
became a Roman Catholic, and wrote many Roman Catholic (but some
Anglican) church music.

Also symphonies, organ concertos, etc.
A head injury in youth caused his later mental instability.
Was among the first British enthusiasts for Bach; hence, doubtless,
the middle name of his son below.

 SAMUEL SEBASTIAN WESLEY

 (1810-1876)

English composer, illegitimate son of the preceeding, also
organist finally at Gloucester Cathedral, and a fighter against
the slackness in Anglican cathedral music at that time.

Wrote much church music, also chorale ODE TO LABOUR, and some piano pieces.
